John Oppermann is Executive Director of Earth Day Initiative, managing the breadth of organization’s activities — from its annual Earth Day events to its major year-round programming, including an effort that empowers people to switch their homes to renewable energy as well as sustainable food education program for schools. Based in New York City and helming the large-scale events there, the organization works with Earth Day organizers around the world to stitch together a cohesive theme and messaging.

John is also a green and healthy home specialist and real estate broker, connecting people to the green and healthy home options that exist throughout New York City, and has taught a course on the subject of marketing sustainable homes at New York University. He has been featured as an expert on sustainability topics by a variety of media outlets including the New York Times, the Guardian, MSNBC.com, and the Washington Post. John graduated with a B.S. in International Politics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
