Kalman Stein
Kalman Stein has been President and CEO of EarthShare since its inception in 1989. During that time EarthShare and its affiliates have raised more than $300 million in pledges; the number of benefiting national member charities has risen from 18 to 71; and the organization has grown to include 16 affiliates and chapters representing more than 500 local nonprofits in 24 states. Under Mr. Stein's leadership EarthShare has persuaded dozens of major corporations and government employers to support environmental and conservation causes through workplace giving, enabling more than 8 million employees nationwide to easily contribute to the causes they connect with. Mr. Stein also helped establish an Ad Council Public Service Advertising partnership for EarthShare which earned more than $650 million in donated media support.
EarthShare now manages numerous large workplace campaigns, including the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) of the National Capital Area, the world’s largest workplace giving drive with more than $62 million in annual pledges. Mr. Stein was the first appointee to the federal CFC50 Commission that made recommendations to the federal government for modernizing the CFC, and he is a founder and current chair of the Combined Federal Campaign Foundation.
Mr. Stein is also a co-founder of the Charities @ Work coalition of fundraising federations and serves on its executive committee. He holds a B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
