Why become an Earth Share Champion? The answer is simple. By letting
your employer know you want the Earth Share option at your workplace,
and by choosing to give to Earth Share in your campaign, you can
help raise money for a world of environmental issues. With one gift
to Earth Share, you are protecting and preserving natural resources
in your neighborhood, your nation, and your planet for future generations.
Payroll contribution giving allows you to choose how much you can
afford to give and do so in small increments throughout the year.
If your workplace does not have an employee giving drive or does
not include Earth Share in its current payroll contribution campaign,
here's what you can do:
- Find out who handles your workplace campaign, benefits package,
or personnel issues, and let them know that you and other employees
want to contribute to environmental causes. Hosting an Earth Share
campaign is a simple and effective way for a company and its employees
to demonstrate concern for the environment.
- Earth Share can send you or your employer an Earth Share brochure
which provides more information about setting up a workplace campaign
at your company. Send an email to info@earthshare.org
to request a brochure. Or, if you prefer, we can send the brochure
directly to the appropriate person in your company.
Once your company has set up a donating option, environmental
giving is almost effortless on your part. Here's how easy it is
to give at the office:
- Ask your campaign coordinator or human resource department if
your workplace has a payroll contribution plan that includes Earth
Share. Many environmentally concerned companies, non-profits,
and government employers participate in Earth Share workplace
campaigns. (Click here to view a partial list of companies currently
hosting Earth
Share workplace campaigns.)
- If your workplace includes Earth Share in its employee giving
campaign, an Earth Share brochure and pledge card should be provided
by your employer during your workplace's designated campaign period.
Fill out the pledge card, authorizing an amount to be withheld
from your paychecks, and return it to your workplace giving coordinator.
- The payroll department in your company deducts the amounts you
designated to Earth Share from your regular paycheck each pay
period. You will notice that your paystub will include your contribution
as a regular itemization, just as with taxes, health plans, or
union dues. Your company will remit the donations to Earth Share
to be distributed to the appropriate agencies. It's that simple!
Giving As a Federal Employee
Earth Share participates annually in the largest workplace giving
campaign in the world - the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)
for
employees of the federal government, the postal service, and the
U.S. military. If you are a federal government or military employee
and would like to give to Earth Share through the CFC, please enter
CFC code #0900 on your pledge card during the next fund drive. If
you would like to donate specifically to our member agencies through
the CFC please list the appropriate agency code/s on your pledge
card. View our list of member
charities, which includes the CFC codes along with a description
of each organization.
Giving Through Your United Way Campaign
If your local United Way campaign does not include Earth Share or
our members in its list of charities, find out if your campaign
has a write-in option. Many United Ways will allow you to designate
your donation to any tax-exempt charity. If yours does, write "Earth
Share" in the space provided on your United Way pledge card, along
with our address -- "7735 Old Georgetown Road, Suite 900, Bethesda,
MD 20814."
