Cross-Country by Rail in Photos

Photos by EarthShare Member Environment and Energy Study Institute (EESI) intern Christianna Johnson

EESI intern Christianna Johnson recently made a three-day journey from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Washington, DC via the California Zephyr, a train that connects Chicago to San Francisco. Taking the train not only generates less greenhouse gas emissions than taking a car or plane, it also provides a unique opportunity to meet people from across the country.

As a millennial and a recent urban planning graduate, Christianna appeals for more substantial investment in rail, as opposed to increasing investment in roadway and airport capacity. To read more about Christianna's journey and what EESI is doing to support our rail network (as part of a broader effort to make our transportation system more efficient), click here.
