The Sierra Club recently released its annual "Cool Schools" ranking: a list of those universities going above and beyond for sustainability.

Which school made it to the coveted #1 spot on the Cool Schools list in 2013?

A. Portland State University
B. Lewis & Clark College
C. Stanford University
D. University of Connecticut

The correct answer is D. University of Connecticut.

From the Sierra Club: "This year's winning school offers almost 600 sustainability-related classes taught by some of the greenest minds anywhere—more than 40% of UConn's research faculty does original academic work that benefits the environment. Since 2005, the main campus, in Storrs, has slashed its water use by 15%—and over the past two years, 13 of its buildings were retrofitted to prevent 2,640 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. In the trayless dining halls, 30% of meal options are vegetarian, and more than a quarter of the food is processed within 100 miles, with many ingredients harvested right on campus: Honey comes from UConn's apiaries, fresh eggs from the agriculture department, and seasonal produce from student-run gardens."
