Celebrating 50 Years of Federal Employee Generosity.

Chances are, if you’re not a federal employee or an esteemed member of our nation’s military, you may have never heard of the largest annual workplace giving charity campaign in the world: the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). And yet, this campaign alone raises several million dollars every year in support of the work thousands of nonprofit organizations do in your backyard and around the world to care for our health, protect our natural resources, respond to disasters and community needs, and more. According to John Berry, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel, the CFC "has been like bedrock" for Americans and people in need around the world.

CFC 50th Anniversary This year’s annual giving drive marks the 50th anniversary of the CFC. Established by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, the CFC is the most successful charity drive of its kind, and this is thanks entirely to the incredible generosity of America’s federal employees. Over the past 50 years, federal employees have donated $7 billion to thousands of charities, helping to improve quality of life at home and overseas.

“Those donations have made a world of difference,” notes Kal Stein, President of EarthShare. “They helped provide food, shelter and assistance to the needy; disaster relief in the aftermath of events like Hurricane Katrina and earthquake in Haiti; cures for diseases; assistance for developing countries; support for our military and their families; protection for our environment and natural resources; and so much more.”

The CFC is committed to providing employees with an efficient, accountable, and effective way to support the issues that matter to them. Charities included in the CFC campaign are required to meet strict financial and governance standards and are reviewed annually.
