Turn your vacation into a green adventure Savoring, saving beautiful places

In this day and age, vacations can be hard to come by and are often synonymous with simply catching up on errands and household activities. But what if you turned your next vacation into a feel-good experience that improved your local or global community?

Volunteer vacations are those that help you give back to the world around you. From protecting endangered animals to saving vanishing wetlands, a volunteer vacation can help you create lasting memories and a lasting impact. Check out the Sierra Club’s volunteer vacation opportunities if you want to give back through your next trip. Or, consider ecotourism – sustainable travel that can bring in revenue for local communities in environmentally crucial regions without disturbing the natural habitat. As Conservation International says, "You've got to see it to save it." Check out Conservation International’s top five eco-destinations and tips for eco-travel.

Join the Grid: the Clean Energy Project

In honor of Earth Month, EarthShare has partnered with IBM and the World Community Grid to support their Clean Energy Project. World Community Grid's mission is to create the world's largest public computing grid to help tackle projects that benefit humanity. The success of their project depends upon individuals like you collectively contributing your unused computer time to change the world for the better. These contributions of computer time support the technical infrastructure that serves as the grid's foundation for scientific research – when you’re not using it, your computer will request data on a specific project from World Community Grid's server. Each computation your computer supports provides scientists with critical information that accelerates the pace of research.
