Your Earth Day Roundup > April 2009
What started out as one day of environmental awareness in 1990 has grown into a full month of Earth-friendly action! EarthShare’s network is offering you all kinds of ways to do good and have fun during Earth Month. No matter where you live, there are ideas and events to get you outside, get you inspired, and help you celebrate and protect the amazing planet we share.
- Join our community cleanup! Live in the D.C. Metro area? EarthShare, D.C. Surfrider and The Anacostia Watershed Society invite you to come out and help clean up the Anacostia River at the 15th Annual Earth Day River Cleanup and Celebration on Saturday, April 18.
- Green your cleaning routine. Support EarthShare of California by looking for BioKleen products at California stores such as Whole Foods, Raley’s and Lassen’s during Earth Month.
- Celebrate Georgia! EarthShare of Georgia is throwing a Party in the Sky on April 22 at the largest brown field redevelopment in the country.
- Switch to renewable energy. EarthShare of New York is inviting New York residents to switch to renewable energy during Earth Month.
- Plant a tree. Support EarthShare of North Carolina by stocking up on tree seedling planters from the Great Outdoor Provision Company.
- Sweat in style for the planet. EarthShare of Oregon invites you to support your world (and your fitness routine) by stocking up on eco-friendly sportswear through Planet Protect.
- Clip a coupon for Texas. You can support EarthShare of Texas at the checkout of your local H-E-B grocery store throughout April.
- Give your time. EarthShare of Washington invites you to find an Earth Day volunteer event in your region!
- Send your friends an Earth Day e-card. The American Farmland Trust has four earth-friendly e-cards that come with tips on protecting our water, air and land.
- Party for the planet. The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo will host its first annual Green Festival and Party for the Planet, where you can learn about eco-friendly products and practices and participate in green-themed entertainment.
- Join the Green Generation. Earth Day Network encourages sustainable consumption and the creation of a new green economy. Thousands of Green Generation events are planned across the world — find one near you.
- Enjoy the outdoors. Many organizations, including the National Audubon Society, are sponsoring walks on and leading up to Earth Day.
- Make change. The World Wildlife Fund is teaming with Coinstar to encourage you to donate your loose change.
- Join a local conservation chapter. Get involved with local conservation efforts by becoming a member of a national organization that has a local chapter near you, like the Izaak Walton League of America or the Surfrider Foundation.
