The nation's public transportation systems saw the largest ridership increase in 25 years as more Americans left their cars at home, even as gas prices eased. Light rail use increased by 8.5% in the third quarter, bus use jumped 7.2%, commuter rail increased by 6.3%, and subways and elevated trains grew by 5.2%. This is good news for the environment. Acid Test: Can we save our Oceans from CO2?
Climate change is making the oceans more acidic, threatening a mass extinction of corals and other marine species. Such a decline and widespread death of coral reefs will cost billions of dollars annually in lost fishing and tourism revenue and will jeopardize the coastal protection that coral reefs provide.
